The company describes itself as a maker of "Sedute per ufficio e contract", seating for offices and contract interiors, and its homepage headline widens that to chairs for the office, the home and contract work, including smart working. Where it sells takes some reading between the lines, and the site does not spell it out. There are no prices and no shopping cart on the homepage or the About page. Diemme has a base in Chile as well: the homepage announces the Spazio Diemme in Santiago de Chile, described as a new meeting point dedicated to Italian design, consultancy and the development of new projects. The events panel lists an upcoming appearance at Design Nation in Kortrijk, Belgium.

The Range

The product menu splits into six groups: operative (task and operator chairs), direzionali (executive chairs, the part of the range that matters for this category), sedie (side and visitor chairs), sgabelli (stools), poltrone e divani (armchairs and sofas), and complementi (accessories and complementary furniture). How the Company Started

The About page, titled "Lavoriamo dove siamo nati" (we work where we were born), tells the story in the founders' own voice. The two founders met in 1985 while working in the upholstered furniture sector ("il settore dell'imbottito") for two different companies, later became colleagues, and in 1995, on a cold winter day, decided to join forces and start Diemme. The company first worked as a subcontractor for other firms, but the founders say their aim was always a coherent system of seating of their own. After designing and building their first office chair, the first catalog followed, and then the first trade fair.

The page says Diemme came through the years of economic crisis by choosing to work with architects and designers and by adding sofas and small armchairs to the office chairs it already made. It credits its local partners and the area it still operates in for giving it the courage to open up to new markets.
